Irregular Migration

MINJEC intensifies the Crusade

The Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou, launched on 13 May 2024 in Dschang, Operation special “Civic and Patriotic Migrations” as one of the innovations of the 2024 National Day and to campaign against the scourge of irregular migration.

Curbing the trend of young Cameroonians leaving the country for greener pastures abroad outside regulatory norms- is one of the main goals of operation “Civic and Patriotic Migration”. The Ministry of Youth and Civic Education and the Cameroon Representation of the International Organisation for Migration (IOM), the initiators of this special operation, are taking concrete action to deconstruct the perception of Cameroonians in general and youths in particular, towards irregular migration.

The IOM’s Head of Mission in Cameroon, Mr. Abdel Rahmane Diop, confirmed the commitment his Organisation to combat irregular migration. Speaking on how people perceive migration, the senior UN official said: “Leave the country for greener pastures, yes, but not at all costs”. The Minister of Youth Affairs and Civic Education, Mounouna Foutsou concurred, reminding youths that “Migration is not a bad thing in itself”. He went on to point out, however, that “youths should migrate abroad to acquire technological skills and know-how and come back home empowered to develop their country, Cameroon”.

The operation thus launched is an opportunity to inculcate in Cameroonians of all walks of life, the notion of “civic and patriotic migration”, for the greater glory of the fatherland.
